    Brick Grout Techniques

Ohio full thin brick grout technique standard

    Standard Joint

This grout technique is done as a standard, raked joint finish.  A jointer or other blunt masonry instrument is used to achieve a consistent depth that creates the familiar concave, raked out look to the mortar.

Ohio full thin brick grout technique overgrout

    Overgrout Joint

An overgrout technique overlaps the mortar with the face of the brick, widening the joints and producing an irregular, rustic look.

Ohio full thin brick grout technique weep joint

    Weep Joint

Dynamic and expressive, grout literally oozes out of the joints to appear as though there's been too much grout squeezed into the joints.  This distinctive "weeping" creates a unique surface texture.

Ohio full thin brick grout technique bead joint

    Bead Joint

Cleaner-looking and more controlled than a weep joint, this technique has grout still extruding beyond the brick face.

Ohio brick grout technique grapevine joint

    Grapevine Joint

A grapevine joint is accomplished by dragging a thin, blunt instrument (not unlike a twig) along the middle of the wet grout - horizontally and vertically - scoring it and leaving a thin visible linear cavity.

Ohio full thin brick grout technique full

    Full Joint

A full grout joint is similar to a standard joint, however, the grout level is almost flush with the face of the brick, slightly exposing the edge detail.
