Walls

Depth - Definition - Dimension

Vertical elements, such as retaining walls, garden walls, and accent walls, create depth and dimension within your outdoor landscape.  The addition of planting areas and lush flower beds help to soften the hard edges of wall block, while the option for seating benches and grill islands make any retaining wall system both functional and stylish.

We work together with you and your landscape contractor!

When you're ready to choose your pavers, our project curators will work together with you and your landscape contractor to make sure that the pavers you choose are within budget and the design within the scope of your project.  Scheduling a showroom consultation is recommended when choosing patio pavers.  This will allow your project curator to have a better understanding of your project and needs ahead of time and prepare samples for you.  Check out the HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR CONSULTATION section below.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR CONSULTATION

Style Preference

Have an idea of the style, size, and texture of the pavers you would like.  We encourage you to bring inspirational pictures of other paver projects that you like.

Color Range

Knowing your desired color range is an important factor in determining which paver and manufacturer you're able to select from and their availability.

Accessories

Your project curator will need to know about any accessory items - such as fire pit, fireplaces, water features, etc. - that will be installed on or near your project.

Square Footage

You will need to know the approximate square footage of the area or areas that will have pavers installed.  This will help our project curators give you a price estimate.

ACCENT WALL REQUIREMENTS

  • Walls should be constructed on solid, undisturbed ground to prevent settlement
  • Use a free-draining gravel base to prevent water pressure build-up or frost movement of the wall
  • Clear gravel stone is needed behind the wall to reduce water or frost pressure
  • A leveling bed
  • Filter fabric to prevent soil from eventually migrating into the clear gravel
  • Drainage pipe to carry excess water away to lower area of the property

BASE PREPARATION

  • Excavate a trench to a minimum of 12" - 16" deep, depending on the height of the wall block.  The trench should be twice the width of the wall unit
  • Remove all topsoil.  If ground is comprised of loose fill, it will need to be removed first or compacted with a hand tamper to prevent any further settlement
  • Line the trench with landscape filter fabric
  • Place 4" - 8" of gravel in the trench
  • The gravel should be free draining with particles ranging from 3/8" to 3/4"
  • Ensure that the trench will accommodate at least one complete row of wall unit below grade
  • Use a hand tamper to compact the gravel in the trench
